Affirmative to Negative

Rule – 1: যদি কোনো Affirmative sentence – এ only বা alone থাকে আর তা যদি Allah/God বা কোনো ব্যক্তিকে নির্দেশ করে তাহলে উক্ত only বা alone উঠে যায় এবং তার পরিবর্তে বাক্যের শুরুতে None but ব্যবহার করতে হয় । যেমন-

Affirmative            : Allah alone can help us.

Negative                 : None but Allah can help us.

Affirmative            : Only he can do the work.

Negative                 : None but he can do the work.

Rule – 2: যদি Affirmative sentence – এ only/alone কোনো বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে, তাহলে উক্ত only/alone উঠিয়ে দিয়ে সেই স্থানে nothing but ব্যবহার করতে হয় ।

Affirmative            : A child likes only sweets.

Negative                 : A child likes nothing but sweets.

Rule – 3: Only দ্বারা যদি সংখ্যা নির্দেশ করে তাহলে প্রথম বাক্য only- এর পরিবর্তে ঐ স্থানে not more than বা not less than বসে ।

Affirmative            : He is only ten.

Negative                 : He is not more than ten.

Rule – 4: Affirmative Sentence – এ যদি must থাকে তবে Negative করার সময় প্রথম বাক্যে must-এর পরিবর্তে cannot but/cannot help বসে । cannot help ব্যবহার করলে cannot help – এর পরে যে verb থাকে তার সাথে ing যোগ করতে হয় যেমন –

Affirmative            : I must help my brother.

Negative                 : I cannot but help my brother.

Affirmative            : He must do it.

Negative                 : He cannot help doing it.

Rule – 5: Every যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence – কে Negative করার সময় Every – এর স্থলে there is no বসে, এরপর Every – এর পরের শব্দটি বসে, তারপর but বসে, তারপর প্রদত্ত Sentence – এর বাকি অংশ বসে । যেমন –

Affirmative            : Every mother loves her child.

Negative                 : There is no mother but loves her child.

Affirmative            : Everyone will support him.

Negative                 : There is no one but will support him.

Rule – 6: As soon as যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence – কে Negative করার সময় As soon as এর পরিবর্তে No sooner had + প্রদত্ত বাক্যের Subject + verb এর Past participle form + বাক্যের বাকি অংশ + than + দ্বিতীয় Clause – এর Past form. যেমন –

Affirmative            : As soon as the rain stopped, we came back home.

Negative                 : No sooner had the rain stopped than we came back home.

Affirmative            : As soon as we reached the station the train left.

Negative                 : No sooner had we reached the station than the train left.

Rule – 7: Affirmative Sentence – এ যদি Superlative degree -এর Adjective থাকে তবে সেগুলোকে Negative করার সময় No other + adjective -এর পরের অংশ + verb + as + Superlative -এর Positive form + as + প্রদত্ত বাক্যের Subject বসবে । যেমন –

Affirmative            : Karim is the best boy in the class

Negative                 : No other boy in the class is as good as Karim.

Affirmative            : Salma is the most beautiful girl in the class.

Negative                 : No other girl in the class is as beautiful as Salma.

Rule – 8: Than any other/Than all other (Comparative degree) যক্ত Affirmative Sentence – কে Negative করার সময় No other + than any other/than all other – এর পরের অংশ + verb + adjective -এর Positive form + as + subject বসবে । যেমন –

Affirmative            : They are less rich than you

Negative                 : They are not as rich as you.

Affirmative            : She is less brilliant than her sister.

Negative                 : She is not as brilliant as her sister.

Rule – 9: Less …. Than যুক্ত Sentence -কে Negative করার সময় less-এর স্থলে not as বসবে এবং than-এর স্থলে ‍as বসবে । যেমন –

Affirmative            : They are less rich than you.

Negative                 : They are not as rich as you.

Affirmative            : She is less brilliant than her sister.

Negative                 : She is not as brilliant as her sister.

Rule – 10: Always যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence -কে Negative করার সময় Always -এর পরিবর্তে Never এবং Affirmative শব্দটির বিপরীত বসবে । যেমন –

Affirmative            : You are always late.

Negative                 : You are never punctual.

Affirmative            : I shall always support you.

Negative                 : I shall never oppose you.

Rule – 11: Too ….to যুক্ত Affirmative (simple) Sentence -কে Complex Sentence -এ পরিণত করে Negative করতে হয় ।

Affirmative            : He is too weak to walk.

Negative                 : He is so weak that he cannot walk.

Affirmative            : He was too tired to do it.

Negative                 : He was so tired that he could not do it.

Rule – 12: Very যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence -কে Negative করার সময় very-এর পরিবর্তে not a little ব্যবহার করতে হবে । যেমন-

Affirmative            : I am very tired.

Negative                 : I am not a little tired.

Rule – 13: সাধারণত Affirmative Sentence -কে Negative Sentence -এ পরিণত করতে হলে প্রদত্ত বাক্যের Affirmative শব্দটির বিপরীত শব্দ বসিয়ে তার আগে not বসিয়ে Negative করতে হয় । যেমন –

Affirmative            : He loves me.

Negative                 : He does not hate me.

Rule – 14: Both… and/and যুক্ত কোনো affirmative sentence -কে negative করতে হলে প্রথম বাক্যের কখনও শুরুতে যদি subject অংশে প্রযোজ্য হয় আবার কখনও মাঝে অর্থাৎ object বা complement অংশে প্রযোজ্য হলে not only … but also ব্যবহার করতে হয় ।

Affirmative            : Both Rajib and Adeep were good friends.

Negative                 : Not only Rajib but also Adeep were good friends.

Affirmative            : He took coffee and ice-cream.

Negative                 : He took not only coffee but also ice-cream.

Rule – 15: চিরন্তন অর্থবোধক affirmative sentence -কে negative করতে হলে শুরুতে বাক্যস্থিত auxiliary verb + n’t + বাকী অংশ + প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন আর যদি বাক্যের মধে auxiliary verb না থাকে তাহলে তার পরিবর্তে Don’t/Doesn’t বসে ।

Affirmative            : Health is wealth

Negative                 : Isn’t health wealth?

Affirmative            : The sun sets in the west.

Negative                 : Doesn’t the sun set in the west?

Rule – 16: Affirmative Sentence -এ sometimes থাকলে negative করার সময় sometimes -এর পরিবর্তে always এবং তার পূর্বে not বসে ।

Affirmative            : My friend sometimes visits me.

Negative                 : My friend does not always visit me.

Affirmative            : A Day labourer is sometimes happy.

Negative                 : A Day labourer is not always unhappy.

Rule – 17: Many যুক্ত কোনো affirmative sentence -কে negative করতে হলে many-এর পরিবর্তে not a few বসে এবং ‍a little-এর পরিবর্তে not much বসে ।

Affirmative            : There are many students in the class.

Negative                 : There are not a few students in the class.

Rule – 18: A few যুক্ত affirmative sentence -কে negative করতে হলে a few -এর পরিবর্তে not many বসে ।

Affirmative            : I have a few friends.

Negative                 : I have not many friends.

Affirmative            : I have a little rice.

Negative                 : I have not much rice.
